Metropolitan Golf Links is a Public 18 hole golf course located in Oakland, California.
Metropolitan Golf Links first opened for play in 2003. The course was designed by Johnny Miller and Fred Bliss.
The Metropolitan Golf Links has a compact layout with two balanced nine hole loops that start and end at the clubhouse. The routing of the course includes straight holes, doglegs, and even a couple of double doglegs! The layout boasts subtle mounting, gentle undulation changes, four wetlands areas, and just enough bunkering to add significant strategic interest. The interesting routing also means that the wind affects each hole very differently, also adding to the fun.
The Metropolitan Golf Links sits on land once occupied by the Galbraith Golf Course, which was closed in the early 1990s. Metropolitan Golf Links opened for play April, 2003, and boasts views of Oakland International Airport, downtown Oakland and San Francisco in the distance. When designing Metropolitan Golf Links, speed of play rather than difficulty was a major designe criteris, therefore the course is generally flat and treeless. However, the wind can play a big factor in shot making. The undulated greens are large and a fair test of one's putting skills.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 6959 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5099 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 10, a par-5 that plays to 569 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 12, a par-3 that plays to 160 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 9, a 421 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at Metropolitan Golf Links is # 12, a 160 yard par-3.

The course is in pretty rough shape. It was recently aerated, and the greens were a bit on the shaggy side. There are many areas where the turf has been removed. Still an interesting course. Links style and prone to be windy, as it is right next to the Oakland Airport and the San Francisco Bay.

Overall, decent golf course especially considering the price. The pro shop is a joke, though. Out of stock of a lot of things, including all Pro V-level balls.

I played during the last week of December 2010, soon after some heavy rains. Overall, the course seemed in decent condition. However, it was crowded, and we ended playing a 5 hr+ round. It's a local favorite, so I will be back when the weather (and course) are better.

Outstanding course, especially if you like links-style golf. Greens are always smooth and fast-running. Some days it can be quite windy, but you can run the ball into the green. Bunkers are good in terms of quality of sand. Excellent drainage system that keeps course playable even after heavy rains, a plus-plus for this part of the country. Excellent grass practice range with good balls. Price is very right.

Above average municipal course. I played it in a club tournament, so it cost more than the usual rate which is quite reasonable. Very good practice facilities, recently renovated clubhouse and course, and Johnny Miller's design made for a very enjoyable round. Wind was moderate; it can be much stronger at times. Airport next door is both interesting and distracting.

Not bad for a links type course, wind can make it more diffcult

The surroundings are a bit funky (Oakland airport on one side, a water treatment plant on the other), but the Johnny Miller links layout if fun to play. Much depends on the wind; if it is coming strong off the bay, which often happens in the afternoon, the course's difficulty increases substantially. All in all, a low-key course but very enjoyable.

Average difficulty with little wind, but would be really tough on a typical, windy day. Drainage after lots of rain was excellent. Excellent walking course. Driving range overpriced. Short game area way overpriced.

Overall, a decent experience. Though, not good value for weekend walking rate.

Very good for a muni. Enjoyable course to play. Don't let the proximity to Oakland Airport scare you away.

I am a regular here, and would recommend the course (especially to Oakland residents)

greens rolled real true, just a tad bit slow. seemed they over watered in certain areas, or there was damaged sprinklers. Overall i would return based of this past round
